Kristy Lo

Owner of Seriously Piano. Kristy started learning the piano at the age of 4 in Taiwan. She had completed and achieved A's in all of the Yamaha grade exams by the age of 12. When she moved to Australia at the age of 14, she continued to learn the piano from a reputable piano teacher in the Hills area. Within 1 year, she received High Distinction in her AMEB 8th grade exams. Upon finishing her HSC, she received offers to study Bachelor of Music in both UNSW and USYD, however decided to study Bachelor of Economics at USYD to be a musical accountant/economist. This has not stopped her from becoming a better pianist. She continued to study piano performance and obtained AMusA (Piano) and became the head teacher in several music schools in the hills area.

Kristy is passionate about piano teaching and enjoys teaching younger children. She enjoys being creative in her piano teaching and incorporating technology into her teaching regime. She is a strict teacher who does not just teach children how to play the piano, but also music appreciation. She is a teacher who cares about the students' learning experience and progress, but not money.

Annie Tan

Since taking up the piano at the age of seven, Annie has been conscious of immersing herself into the world of music. For her, instrumental and orchestral music is a passion, past-time, and ongoing pursuit. Her day-to-day activities are usually accompanied by background music of this genre, spanning a variety of musical periods.

With the piano as her main instrument, Annie is currently preparing for an AMusA diploma. She enjoys playing a broad repertoire of musical styles, ranging from the pleasant structure of classical pieces to the discordant and inharmonious tunes of 20 th   Century music. At the age of nine, she picked up a second instrument, the violin, and sat AMEB exams up to the fifth grade. Although she achieved pleasant results, now she continues to explore further with that instrument at her own pace.

By nature, Annie is patient with others, quick to empathise, and organised in her work. As a teacher, she demonstrates these values by balancing firmness with leniency, and decisiveness with understanding. She believes it is more important to aim for the students’ increased desire to learn, rather than increased technical skill alone. While her teaching strategy generally involves intermingling technical work and exercises with more commonly-known contemporary repertoire, the lessons themselves are tailored to the students’ individual needs and abilities -- an essential aspect of effective progress.

Annie is currently studying for a Bachelor of Secondary Education at USYD, and is looking to go into teaching English and English as a Second Language at a high school level. With both ongoing development of teaching skills and experience in learning the piano, she strives to combine these passions and pass on her knowledge to her students in an enjoyable and approachable environment.

Grace Liao

Grace has been learning piano since Year 1, and continued practising and performing during her school years. During high school, she took music every year and it became her favourite subject. This led to her achieving the highest band in both Music 2 and Music Extension for her HSC, as well as coming first in her class for Music Extension Performance. Prior to her HSC, she also completed her AMEB Certificate of Performance.

Due to her love for teaching younger children, she is now in her third year of Primary Education at the University of Sydney. Grace is passionate about incorporating creative and exciting pedagogy into her lessons to ensure that students get the most out of every lesson, and become confident and joyful piano players. As a teacher, she also emphasises the importance of parental encouragement and guidance during their children’s piano journey. Her games cover all aspects of piano education to ensure that students gain more confidence without it seeming like a chore. If you want a piano teacher who specialises with younger children and families, Grace is the teacher for you.
